Blood Pressure Cuff for Cats and Small Dogs
Blood Pressure Cuff for Cats and Small Dogs Blood pressure is a test done to determine the pressure of the blood against the walls of blood vessels. This pressure is determined by how the heart pumps, the resistance to blood flow in the small arteries, the elasticity of the walls of the main arteries, how much blood is present and the blood viscosity or thickness.

Problems from high blood pressure arise when a blood vessel gets too small for the high pressure flow going through it. Blood pressure monitoring in dogs and cats will become more common as time goes on. At present there are some problems with equipment and there does not seem to be a clear consensus on blood pressure normal values.

Blood pressure measurement is performed similarly to the way it is in humans. An inflatable cuff is fit snuggly around the foot or foreleg of the pet. Sometimes the base of the tail can be used. The cuff is inflated so as to occlude blood flow through the superficial artery.

Blood pressure is checked on any pet that is suspected of having high or low pressure. This includes pets with heart disease, kidney disease, sudden onset of blindness, recent trauma, or other severe illness. Other causes of abnormal blood pressure include diseases of the endocrine system, tumors of the adrenal gland, medications and central nervous system disorders.

I have a recovering demodectic mangey mutt

There are two types: demodectic and sarcopectic (sp?).
My dog had demodectic, which isn't contagious to other healthy dogs; it primarily affects dogs with weakened immune systems (usually a genetic thing). Nikko started losing hair under his eyes and in a patch on his rear left paw. I thought it was ringworm at first. He had an ear infection in the spring, and I think that weakened his imm...er of PuppyCat in SF. It's Lavender Lemon Skin Tonic by Rara Avis. And I also started giving him Solid Gold Seameal (as recommended by someone else in the Pet Forum) with his food. I think that helped a lot...it's supposed to promote a healthy coat, and people always comment on how shiny my dog's coat is.
If you have any other questions, let me know! I'm sure this was more than you wanted.

    • I had the same thing with my 2nd baby--I was freaking out also, and when I would wash my hair or brush it,it wouldnt stop coming out! I sort of just left it and let it do its thing of shedding like crazy, and didnt over bru …ormal, and no need to worry. I felt like I was going to go bald too--it thinned out a little bit,but grew in nice and a bit curly now---it takes about 6 months for you to notice the re-growth...but nothing to worry about!!

I am getting a lot of mixed messages on whether or not it is normal to lose hair during pregnancy. Some women say they experienced it and had perfectly healthy pregnancies. Others say that it is a sign of a miscarriage. I … the previous two I had no problems with stomach upset at all. I am on a fantastic prenatal right now...so I am pretty sure that I am getting the nutrients from that that I need. Any advice would be great! Thanks so much!

    • Hair loss is common. The same thing is happening to me. Some women have no change ,some women lose hair, some women grow hair. Everyone reacts differently to pregnancy and the pregnancy hormone. I've talked to my doctor about this. I'm 31 weeks now so I know it isn't a sign of miscarriage. Don't let people scare you. If you are scared talk to your doctor and don't listen to anyone else as they can be dead wrong.
